Sun, sea, sand – for many the opportunity to move abroad is the dream. For my partner and me, it’s the possibility of exploring a new culture, meeting new people and laying down the foundations for our forever home.
I’ve watched countless videos on YouTube so I know that packing up your belongings and moving to a completely new country can be a daunting prospect.
The Challenges of Moving Abroad
You’re no longer close to family and friends
If COVID taught us anything it’s how much we take travel for granted. You couldn’t just book a flight and fly home at a moment’s notice. Missing family and friends are the main reason why we’ve not yet made the move. Of course, we’re lucky to be living in a digital age where we can jump on Zoom, send a quick text message or connect on Facebook. However, it’s not quite the same as being able to meet up in person.
The language barrier
Learning a new language is a fun activity. Not to mention, it’s also a great skill to have. But, if you’re struggling to pick up certain words or have problems understanding sentences, it can be frustrating, especially when you need to know the language for everyday life.
Making new friends
Making new friends can be challenging wherever you live. If you’re making a home in a new country, you may see yourself as an outsider, particularly if there is a language barrier too. There are also potential cultural issues to think about. You need to be willing to immerse yourself in a different culture, understand traditions and get to know more about the country you’re settling in.
Why Expat Life Coaching is The Answer to These Issues
Moving to a new country is a wonderful experience, filled with excitement and adventure. The potential challenges of moving are something I’ve thought about a lot, which is why I’ve done quite a bit of research on this topic.
I came across expat life coaching which takes a similar approach to traditional coaching, except that it’s designed to help those who are moving to a new country. Expat life coaching aids personal growth, as well as providing direction and clarity on your new journey.
The Benefits of Expat Life Coaching
Here are just a few other benefits of expat life coaching:
- It boosts your confidence in doing daily life activities. Even when doing things like going to the bank or buying groceries can seem overwhelming, coaching gives you back your sense of self so that you’re at ease with your identity and how you fit into a new country.
- It helps you to cope with being away from family and friends, as well as handling relocation issues within your own family.
- It helps you to handle your work/life balance, career, and even gives you support if starting a business abroad.
- You have someone to support you when you feel overwhelmed.
- It helps you to live a happy, fulfilled life.
Expat life coaching is definitely something I will be considering if we do decide to move abroad. Moving to a new country can be one of the biggest, and most exciting, decisions to make. There is so much support out there to help you make the transition easier and expat life coaching is one of the best ways to take charge of your life.
